Landgraviate

The title of Landgrave refers to a count who has imperial immediacy, or feudal duty owed directly to the Emperor. His jurisdiction stretches over a sometimes quite considerable territory, which is not subservient to an intermediate power, such as a Duke. By definition, a landgrave exercises sovereign rights. His decision-making power is comparable to that of a Duke. The titles of Landgrave, Margrave, and Count palatine are in the same class of ranks as Duke and above the rank of a Count.
